A Couple Of Things

1. I passed the MPRE. I am, therefore, an ethical person.

2. I love the shuffle function on the iPod because every once and a while you'll just get bowled over by a song that you have forgotten about. This happened a few weeks ago with Badfinger's "Baby Blue." (Someone else has posted an .mp3 of the song. I'm just linking to them.)

There are a million reasons to love this song, but I think my personal favorite is that last line. Every other verse ends with the rhyme, "The special love I have for you, my baby blue." In the last line of the song, however, just when you're expecting them to repeat that hook, they change it up and sing, "The special love you have for me, my Dixie dear." Amazing. Little things like that - changing a line when you're expecting something completely different and not even making it rhyme - can make a song wonderful.

Although Badfinger is quite possibly the worst band name in the history of the world, they do have some other pretty awesome songs that you probably have heard (without realizing that they are by Badfinger). They include "Come and Get It", "Without You", "Day After Day", "No Matter What" and other classics. They were also one of the original bands signed to the Beatles' Apple Records which has to count for something. I would recommend going out and buying a greatest hits album immediately. It's way better than "Fergalicious."

Also, as fate would have it, I was recently looking at who was playing at Wolf Trap this summer, and Badfinger is going to be playing at Hippiefest with the Zombies, the Turtles and other old washed-up bands. From what I understand, the lead singer of Badfinger committed suicide a few years back, so I'm not quite sure how they are going to pull it off, but it might be worth checking out. The concert is right in between the bar exam and us moving to Rochester, so we might just be able to pull it off. If anyone is in the DC area on July 28th, feel free to join us on the lawn.

3. Finally, as you may or may not know, I took a scuba diving class so that I will be certified for our trip to the Cayman Islands in May. Part of the process involves making a certain amount of open water dives. Well, we live in Charlottesville, Virginia so you can imagine that our options were pretty limited for diving locations.

We ended up going to an old, abandoned, 80 ft deep soapstone quarry about an hour out of town. It was cold and the visibility wasn't great, but all in all it was pretty fun. Here are some pictures from the dive.

Looks pretty fun, right? I did see a couple of fish, but nothing else too exciting. I have a feeling that diving in the Caymans will be a bit of an upgrade.
