Potty Training

I attempted to potty train Ethan last year before the arrival of Eleanor. Needless to say, it didn't happen because Ethan showed absolutely NO interest in potty training. I had heard from numerous friends that the best thing to do was to wait until the child showed interest. As of a month ago I thought that day would never come. Then one day while perusing eBay I saw a pack of Lego Batman underwear that I knew Ethan would love. He's been pretty discouraged when we tell him that they don't make Lego Batman anymore, but that they do make the video game for the Wii (which we bought). When I asked him if he'd like the underwear he was pretty excited.

On Monday we got the package in the mail and as soon as we opened it Ethan wanted to put them on immediately! I was a little nervous since we were heading out with our neighbors to get free slurpees at 7-11, so I put a diaper underneath his underwear and told him we'd try when we got home to potty train. A few hours later Ethan was eating lunch on a blanket in our family room wearing his undies when he said, "I did it!" When I got over to him kneeling in a pool of pee I had to explain to him that he needed to tell me before he went and not after he went.

As of yesterday he wore underwear ALL day (except for his nap which he woke up with a dry diaper) and he only had one minor accident. He had started to pee and once he realized it he had us sit him on the potty and he finished his business. What a champ. We're pretty excited for him and glad since he's over 3 years old and I'm so over buying/changing 2 sets of diapers. He's pretty excited because he gets cool underwear and while he's on the potty he usually gets to watch a show or play with my iPhone. In fact, here's a little picture he snapped of Eleanor while on the pot yesterday. Eleanor is typically harassing Ethan while he's on the potty by grabbing his underwear and clawing at the potty chair. We're going to have to work on that.

Ha ha. I love that he was so proud of himself for going pee IN his underwear until he realized it had to be in the potty. I personally hate potty training and dread he day Isaac will start. But the cool unders idea is great! That would be some good motivation for sure.

Also, how did you "edit" E's picture to make it look antique or polaroid-y? Please don't tell me it's some fancy filter on your fancy camera. ;)

I actually took the picture with my iPhone and it's from the app called instagram that has cool filters on it.
