Change of Season

I've been meaning to update the blog with a post about our recent visitors, but I've been busy. Busy cutting out bats, pumpkins and letters to decorate for Halloween... but I'll get to that later.

Last week the Dursts came to visit from Houston. We met years ago at UVA while the guys were doing law school, though we never hung out or really got to know each other. Thank goodness for blogs for bringing people together. It turns out that the Dursts son, Sam, is 6 days younger than Ethan, so it was fun for Ethan to have a little buddy for a couple days. Even if Ethan was more interested in Sam's doodle pad than Sam himself. While they were here we got a little taste of Upstate New York's summer and the humidity that comes with it. They did all the Church history sites, but I joined them to see the Peter Whitmer farm since I had never been. On the drive out there some of the leaves were already starting to change color which only means one thing... fall is coming!!! It was a little muggy out and the mosquitoes were biting at us, but it was gorgeous out in the middle of nowhere. The day they left, the weather turned quickly to fall-esque weather. It's been cool and a little rainy which is just perfect for all the soup making I've been doing recently. I love Autumn! Here are some photos from the Dursts visit. Thanks for coming out to see us (and all those other places you wanted to see)!

Don't mind the poor cropping courtesy of the Argentinian Sister missionary.

In other news, with Halloween quickly approaching (all time seems to fly by these days) I've been trying to decorate our home on a budget. The budget being $0. The best thing I could find that I didn't have to spend money on was some homemade garlands that you sew together to hang up. It was pretty easy, but I think Ethan is sick of me cutting out card stock and construction paper.

The letters are from here.

The template for the silhouettes is from here.

Another way we've saved money is by my Mom buying Ethan his Halloween costume. She sent it to us this week and unfortunately when we put it on it's a little too tight. Anyone know how to patch a Halloween costume to make the crotch part longer? As you can tell by the picture, Ethan has to hunch over a little bit to fit in it. He sure makes a cute tiger though. A tiger with leopard spots. So I guess he's a leoger. Whatever.

I love the garlands! I've been wanting to make some too, but I haven't gotten started. I feel like September flew by and now it's practically Halloween already!

Look at you being all crafty, I love the way the projects turned out!! And Ethan looks so cute in his costume, I loved those other pictures you sent me too. I think he was growling in one of them...so cute! That boy is getting so big, he would have a costume that is too small for him! :)

What a cute tiger! Thanks so much for having us. We had such a great time and you are a perfect hostess. Love the garlands. I'll have to whip out my cricut.

Funners! THis is why meeting all these peeps in cville 1st ward is so great. You end up knowing people all over the map and can go stay with eachother on vacations. You're little guys are too cute. I love the bath pic.

Leoger... reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite. So funny. You could always just cut the costume around the waist and make it into top and bottom separates, and wear a shirt underneath!

haha I love Ethan in his Halloween costume! so cute. I love the decorations too- our decorations consisted of a pumpkin. But I just found out we will be having trick or treaters... so I might have to put forth a little more effort- I might steal your ideas :)
