Ethan's Big Day

So Ethan has been gearing up for his Lego Batman birthday party for almost an entire year. That's the thing about Ethan; he plans what he wants for his birthday almost a year in advance and sticks to it. It's the same thing he does with Halloween. In fact, he's already told us he wants a Cars 2 birthday party next year. Woof. I hope he changes his mind. Anyway, so weeks ago I made the invitation for his party and then a friend printed them out to be photo sized and we sent them to Ethan's friends. He got a kick out of the invite.

Ben and I ran around a couple times this week trying to find things that would be perfect for his party and by Friday night I was ready to almost buy a Wegmans cake and call it good for Ethan's birthday; but then the frugal side of me kicked in and I decided to make a cake. I ended up accidentally breaking the 4th layer of the cake so it ended up being a pedestal for Batman on his jet ski. The cake was not my finest work, but I was totally ok with that.

Yesterday morning Ethan came downstairs to his presents lined up in the bay window, the birthday banner hanging, balloons, and a box of Reese's Puffs for breakfast. He was in heaven.

Then Ethan got to open some of his presents. Legos, Star Wars gear, and some other superhero stuff made Ethan a happy boy.

After a quick clean up and bath, we got ready for 11 kids to come over to party with Ethan. The boys got Batman tattoos while the girls got Hello Kitty ones.

Ben was awesome and planned out all the activities for the kids. Here they are playing Mr. Freeze freeze dance.

Then they got to throw batarangs (foam bats we got on clearance at Michaels after Halloween last year) at the Joker's bomb. Ben even made the box with the cutout for the kids.

Next up was the Two-Face Lego spoon race. They had to keep multi-colored Lego blocks on spoons and race from one side of the yard to the other without dropping the Legos.

Then they took Catwoman's whip and wrapped up a victim and the two teams battled to see who could do it the fastest.

After this game the kids did a Riddler scavenger hunt where they got mini super hero figures and then the last clue led them to their goodie bags. Afterward the kids tried to bust open the pinata but I had to step in since it clearly was not going to bust open by the little ones hitting it.

Next Ethan got to eat pizza outside with his friends and then we brought out the cake for the Birthday boy. It was such a gorgeous day that we had the entire party in our backyard. Made the food cleanup a whole lot easier. Ethan's friends helped him blow out his Lego candles. Gotta love Target for carrying Lego candles.

Once the cake was eaten and the kids were sufficiently full, Ethan opened his presents. He got some serious loot and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about stashing some of it away to open at a later time. Lucky little guy.

This was definitely a Birthday for the books for Ethan. It was fun that he could actually have his party on his Birthday. Ethan is a great kid and we are so happy to have his crazy, energetic, silly, and belly laughing personality in our family. We love our little 4 year-old!

Lastly, here is a video I took of Ethan before his big day.
