Tonight I was able to witness something I have always wanted to witness as an employee at Gap... shoplifters getting nabbed for stealing from our store. Usually when we notice someone has been shoplifting, we can't do much other than offer them help and hope they ditch the stuff. Tonight after the teens had left our store we contacted security who then sent a sheriff to ask us about the shoplifters. After we identified them, they let us know that they would be following them and had had complaints about them from other stores. They were apparently making trips out to their car with the merchandise they were stealing from various stores because they had the guts to come back and rip us and other stores off multiple times in one night. A little while later we were notified by the sheriffs department that is located in the mall that they had apprehended them.
Since they had stolen all the merchandise from Gap Kids and Baby Gap, I had to go into the sheriffs office and identify them and count up all the items that they had stolen. It was pretty awkward considering I was like 3 feet from them while they were sitting there handcuffed and they totally could hear me say my full name to the officer. Hopefully they don't remember my last name. Anyway, after I tallied up everything they stole the total came to $595! Still not sure whether the punks will be charged with a felony or a misdemeanor, but hopefully it means they won't be coming to our store to shoplift again.
