Super Saturday

We started off this morning pretty late since Ethan thought it would be fun to get up and whine at 5 in the morning, yet somehow we made the most of our morning. After a breakfast run to Dunkin Donuts, we got crackin' in the yard. We mowed the lawn, edged, tilled the garden plot, filled it with vegetable soil, trimmed the hedges, planted a garden, let Ethan eat some dirt, let him ride his trike in the yard, blew up his new kiddie pool and let him play in it, and nearly drowned 3 chipmunks (not in the kiddie pool) when trying to rid them of our yard all before 1 in the afternoon. Now that is what I call productive!

The chipmunk part of the morning sort of freaked me out and reminded me of all the times that my sister Natalie had to put half-dead rodents out of their misery by drowning them. Since one of the holes was in our garden and we had already put dirt in it and planted, I thought I'd put a hose in the other end of their "home" and drown them out. I wasn't sure how well it would work, but after leaving the hose on for about 30 seconds I went to check the hole and three chipmunk heads were trying to get by the hose out of the hole. I screamed like a little girl as I took the hose out and they started to run into the garage. Two of them were petrified (I thought they were dead) and were shaking, while one got away. After Ben took one and flung it over the fence in our backyard and the other one scampered off, I filled the hole back up. Who knows, they'll probably come back, but hopefully they've learned their lesson.

Now all we need is for our garden to grow. Homegrown squash, watermelon, tomatoes, and cucumbers will hopefully make an appearance on the blog one of the days. I know you all can't wait!

Ben planting seeds while Ethan ate dirt.

Herb garden on the left and useless dirt on the right.

Ethan got his foot stuck under the wheel of the trike.

Mega tears.

Much happier. The inflatable pool is a success.

The yard looks great! Good for you for shooing away the chipmunks. So glad you can all enjoy the outdoors. Let us know how your vegetable garden does. A little Miracle Grow can really help!

Geeze, it looks great!

And Ethan is SUCH A BRUFORD! Seriously, his eyes/face/smile is totally your family. Happy (late) birthday to him.

Seriously your yard looks awesome! But am I the only one offended by the chipmunks dying?! Geez! So cruel!

I'm totally jealous that you get to have a real garden and that yard! We have a couple extra bathing suits Ethan can borrow. Doesn't his mom work at Gap or something? ps--kill those chipmunks if they are going to eat your food! Please, I don't claim to be an animal lover.
