It's Not Even Winter Yet...

and it seems as if Ethan has gone stir crazy at home. He loves to be outside and play in the yard and he was getting pretty good at raking the leaves with us, but with a slight cold I don't want to expose Ethan to the elements for too long. We've been trying out things indoors, though it seems that his favorite thing to do is play MarioKart (which he's only done twice for less than 15 minutes). He honestly freaks out when it gets turned off. Yikes.

So now we have to be creative. Luckily we got a package yesterday from my Mom and it came with a bunch of packing peanuts. Ethan loved it so much that he played in there for a good half hour. I had to stop him so that the novelty wouldn't wear off. Then I made him fold laundry with me. Now he's taking post-its apart. What are you going to do? Anyway, here's a little taste of how Ethan spent part of his morning:

Get in a box full of packing peanuts.

Work your way down to the bottom of the box.

Close the lid.

It's a floating head!

Ta-da!

Suggestions on fantastic indoor activities for what is sure to be a brutal winter are welcome.

MarioKart is addicting. I feel Ethan's pain! I also know how fun it is to play in boxes. In college my roommate and I hid in a huge box in our elevator and scared people when they came in! So much fun.

As for activities to do-I have no idea. Good luck with that!

I guess you'll have to SAVE that box...good thing you have a basement and/or attic! And Ethan is going to be an expert at Mario Kart before you know it! (you better practice, Amanda)

i'm feeling the same way. we just bought memberships for the aquarium and children's museum and i have a feeling we will be using those a lot. so far we've only had a few really cold days here. when we're trapped inside, stella enjoys things like playing with shaving cream on the table, "cooking" with real pots and pans (i put a little bit of water and maybe a rock or something in a pot so she can stir it), "fixing" things with our harmless tools, dancing to abba (oh wait, that's me)...those are a few. i'll think of some more and email you or something. let me know your ideas as well. we should write a book and sell it to other northerners.

You have a membership to the museum, right? The Library discovery room is great. There's music class and running around in the church gym. You can always walk through the mall and look at the water fountains. Target gives kids free popcorn.

Did you know in the last picture that Ethan is doing exactly what the monster on his shirt is doing??

That's funny, I didn't even realize it!

Oh no! Luke has been playing Star Wars so much lately that Ethan might beat him in Mario Kart! Ahh, winter. Guess what we're thinking of getting the kids for Christmas? A moonbounce. That we'll set up indoors in the winter time. How awesome is that? Ethan and Stella can use it over Christmas!
