The Croup

Isn't that just the saddest face you have ever seen on this kid? It may seem like we're all falling apart here at the Mudrick house, but at least Ben still feels good. Yesterday while Ethan and I were hanging out he was acting out of sorts. He slept a lot and then later in the afternoon when he tried to "baby talk" it sounded as if he lost his voice. Last night it gradually got worse as he had a rising temperature and his breathing was harsh and sounded very congested. We called his pediatrician this morning and went in for a visit where he was diagnosed with having croup. It sounded like he had fluid in his lungs the way he was breathing, but luckily he said his lungs sound clear and it's like he has baby laryngitis. He's on Motrin as well as some other prescription stuff that should reduce the swelling in his throat. He's been sleeping most of the day and when he's not, he's crying to be held or touched. He hasn't even cracked a smile at all today. It breaks my heart. Anyway, we hope it'll pass within the next few days. My back is still killing me, but after Ethan's appointment we went next door to get a couple X-rays of my back. The radiologist should be checking it this afternoon and then forwarding it on to my Dr., so hopefully we'll find out if there's anything wrong sometime soon. So far 2009 has been the year of visits to the Dr. and co-pays. Wohoo!

Poor guy! I hate it when they're sick. And Ava has been sick lately too with a cough. Her's is just a sinus infection (just, ha!) so I'm glad we don't have to deal with croup. But either way, it sucks.

Lame!! Being sick is super lame..I know from experience. I cannot imagine having extreme back pain though. I feel like that would be so annoying more than anything because you would be so limited in what you can do. I hope you figure out what the problem is and how to fix it soon. Good luck, keep me posted!

I HATE croup. So, so sorry. AND with a bad back? At least it's winter and there is nothing to do in the FaREEZING cold weather.

BTW, LOVE the video. So cute.

My Heart melted when I saw that picture! Poor little guy. What a rough couple weeks for you! I hope things get better soon for both of you.

My little boy Owen, was just diagnosed with Croup too on Saturday! It's awful. I feel for your little guy. Mine is still getting over it. And by the way, I like his rocket jammies. Owen has the same ones.
