We attempted to watch a Christmas movie on TV while setting up the tree, and since "Prancer" was the only movie on ABC Family we let it play in the background while setting up the tree. Wow, that movie is lame. I remember watching it when I was like 6 or 7 and really liking it, but it was pretty bad. We ended up changing the channel to watch Miami Ink on TLC instead. Nothing brings the Christmas spirit like trashy people getting tattoos.
The tree was a little more difficult to set up than a normal tree which was a little strange. We had to insert each branch into the center pole, separate the branches and tweak it to make "real". From far away it looks pretty good, and with all the ornaments on it you can't really tell it's a fake. All we need now is some Christmas Tree scented candles to make it smell real.

Congrats on your "fake tree"! I remember getting a lot of flack when we switched over... Anyway, Dad and I bought our second fake tree last night at Costco. A 9 footer. Happy 33rd anniversary to us! Recommendation: Get a pine scented diffuser w/bamboo sticks. Everyone thinks we have REAL PINE in the house! And we don't have to be home to burn candles...
Maybe it takes time setting up the fake tree, but putting lights on a real tree and taking them off is time consuming and NOT fun! (I hope your tree is pre-lit!)
Thanks for the recommendations Mom. I'm bummed I won't see the Christmas treeS this Christmas. I would ask you to keep them up, but I don't know when I'm coming out next.
No, our tree was not pre-lit. It wasn't too bad to string them around...I think putting the tree together was worse.
the tree looks amazing! nice work kids. i don't think we are grown up enough yet to have our very own tree.
When we bought our fake tree, I just figured it would "fold out" of the box, and not much assembly would be required. Wrong. We too had to put each branch in the metal hole. But, it looks great and does the job. Merry Christmas :) Is there lots of snow in NY yet?
our fake tree looks about as fake as you can get. i guess it was a hand-me-down walmart special from 10 years ago. we'll definitely hold on to it for a few more years and then hopefully hand it down to a deserving poor couple spending their first christmas together.
We're debating getting an artificial tree--my family has done it for years, and of course the Mud's haven't. But man, real trees are $$$$$. I think a fake would pay off the first or second year. Plus, cleaning up the needles is more of a pain than putting the tree together. And wouldn't I be saving a tree?
Those fetus legs are getting long
NOOOOOOO!! I can't believe you went fake! I'm trying to convince Travis to let us get a real tree this year, but he's such a stickler for rules. You were my main argument saying "...the Mudricks had a real tree that didn't burn down the apartment and no one found out!" Looks like another year without a tree for us. Maybe next year.
Looks awesome... We were going to go green until we saw the prices on those suckers. Yes, we are cheap and environmentally insensitive:)
Oh, I can't wait to tell Dan you guys went fake!!! I've been begging since I became allergic to Christmas trees a few years ago. If I touch it, I get an itchy rash up and down my arms and the smell makes me sooo nauseated (which means I keep our windows open all December). But guess what we went out and bought last night? A beautiful North Carolina Frasier Fir . . . Dan and the kids strung the lights while I hung out in my bedroom (with the door shut) and tried not to puke.
Yay! Now that someone has broken the Mudrick tradition we can too. THANK YOU!!!
Your house is so cute!
