In the past month we've gotten some snow, but on the whole it's been a mild winter. We would get a couple inches, then we would get a thaw and it would all be gone. It has really been ideal, especially since two of the biggest storms were when we were in Utah and our next door neighbor snow-blowed our driveway twice for us. Before Friday we hadn't even started up our snowblower.
Anyway, we got word of a crazy winter storm named Nemo heading our way, and as of Friday morning it didn't seem like it was going to come to fruition. It hadn't snowed overnight and it only appeared to be snowing lightly by 9 am. Only thing was that after that light snowfall it got to be heavy snowfall and it didn't stop. Not until Saturday afternoon! The snow was so heavy and constant that the plows really couldn't keep up and the roads were atrocious. Ben got out of work early, and I called in and asked my work if they really needed me to white-knuckle drive it out to Victor. Luckily, my managers are awesome and I didn't have to go in. We spent the rest of the daylight outside with the kids shoveling snow, snow-blowing the driveway and then Ben helped the kids build a snowman.
It was fairly warm (in the 30's) outside and the kids loved "helping" us. Eleanor particularly loved hamming it up for the camera.
The snow has made for some beautiful backdrops around town and on our street.
The neighborhood gang (the kids next door) were out while we were and they were all about helping build a snowman.
The masterpiece!
I took this shot around 11 at night, but it was so bright outside that I didn't need a flash.
Finally the weather toned down a little bit and it was a good thing since we had tickets to Disney on Ice from Ben's work on Saturday afternoon. We sat in the suite which is kind of the worst seat in the house, but free is free people. The kids loved the show and all the free popcorn and pretzels. Because of the dim light I couldn't get a decent shot of the kids.
Really, I swear they enjoyed it! The flash must have been too much.
