Independence Day 2012

In typical Mudrick fashion, we spent part of the 4th down at Stony Brook State Park. Ever since we discovered this place 3 years ago, we've made it a tradition to go on the holiday. We've never been there on any other day, which seems silly since it's probably the busiest it ever gets on this holiday, but we still love it so we go. This year our friends the Richards and the McBeths joined us. With the addition of 5 more boys (Eleanor was the only girl) the kids all had a blast! How could they not though? Stomping through mini waterfalls and throwing rocks into the water and a picnic to follow? Any kids dream!

After the park we had a soft serve stop at McDonalds and then headed home. After relaxing for a little bit we got the kids together and went to the Pulley's home for a BBQ and some swimming. We were surprised the kids weren't totally melting down at this point, so we gave them a bath, let them check out fireflies out front and then stuck them in the car and went downtown to watch the fireworks from Ben's parking garage (it overlooks the river downtown). We didn't have as great as a view as we did last year, but the kids still loved it and we were able to beat the traffic and make it home in like 5 minutes. Even though the kids went to bed at 10:30, they still managed to be little punks and woke up at their usual times. We, on the other hand, were completely beat, but in the best way possible. Here's to hoping we have as great of a 4th of July next year!

And for a stroll down memory lane, here are our pictures from the previous 3 times we've been. We didn't go in 2010 since the 4th was on a Sunday.
