I love Saturdays. Today was just what I needed to recover from a 52+ hour work week. I used to clock these kind of hours when we lived in Charlottesville, but it's different here since I don't go home between jobs when I work at the Gap at night. By the end of yesterday, I was exhausted. I'm sure I can speak for Ben too that it felt good to sleep in past 7:00 this morning. After we finally got up, Ben and I headed over to the Rochester Public Market to pick up some fresh produce. I love getting a good deal regardless of what it is, so the market is my kind of place. Here are some of the things we saw:Though tempting, we did not buy those ridiculous looking squash. We did get some peppers though so that Ben can make his Chicken Chili. As for the purses; who'd have thought you could find knock-off purses in this town? Don't mind my greasy hair. I decided not to shower before going out this morning. My mistake. The empanadas remind Ben of his mission in Venezuela and though we haven't eaten at Juan & Maria's Empanada Stop, we hope to some day. Either that or Ben will have to make me a killer empanada at home.
All in all it was a good Saturday. Thank goodness for Sundays so I can have another day to recuperate. I just need to keep telling myself that all this work is worth the discount... right?

I bet if you leaned against a mirror, your greasy hair would leave a mark...
The Roach seems better after every one of your posts. I think the local tourism board should link to your blog. We look forward to visiting some day and when we do, I'll treat at the empanada shop.
I love the farmer's market!!! I hear ya- working too much and too early! So I remember when you sent me your blog link several months ago saying that you were giving in...I really didn't get what a blog was at that point but we finally just gave in too.I must say Amanda- I think you are a pretty amazing blogger to keep up with it on top of all that you have going on! I'm still figuring out this whole blog thing but I like yours! take care~
I love those pictures. I could spend all day in a market. We went to some cool ones in Mexico City. I actually had some authentic Bolivian empandas on Saturday...soooooo good. We're hitting that spot when we come to town.
I loves empanadas, but I can't bring myself to pay $2.75 for one of those babies. I mean, I don't think we ever paid more than 150 Bolivars (about twenty cents when I was there) for them in Venezuela. I know I'm just being cheap, but it's a hard thing to get over.
Plus, I'm worried that they just won't taste as good as they do in my memory (things rarely do), and then I'd feel especially bad about spending $2.75 on one.
That's why I can't wait for Sam and Julie to come up since they are paying!!!
If anyone else wants to vist and buy me some empanada, you're invited.
What I wouldn't give for an Venezuelan empanada.... if you guys ever make it back-let us know. There is safety in numbers, and those crazy Chavez lovers could not touch us!! Also I am obsessed with the crazy squash- looks like fun
Amanda it's not worth the discount, you definitely need more time to do all those Rochester activities. If we end up out there I need to you to be able to show me around! That market looks like lots of fun, it's a shame you didn't buy the ridiculous squash!
Amanda your hair looks grrrreat.
Hey there! I still need to hit the city market.
We'd love to have you guys over sometime. Wayne's schedule has been pretty crazy, but starting next week he has the weekends off for a few weeks. I've lost your email address. Please email me your info and I'll give you a call!!
